Dorothy S. Ainsworth:  Her IAPESGW Legacy

An overview of Dr. AinsworthÕs professional contributions toward the founding and nurturing of the International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women will be presented.  Influences on her professional philosophy and her personal qualities as an international leader were foundation stones in the creation and success of IAPESGW especially during the organizationÕs formative years.  The focus will be on her dedicated service after WWII working with women leaders, especially in Europe, that led to the realization of the first international meeting of women in physical education in Copenhagen 1949 and the following two Congresses in Paris 1953, and London 1957.  Dr. Ainsworth traveled throughout the world making professional contacts, attending Conferences, helping and encouraging women especially in under-developed countries thus nurturing the growth of IAPESGW.  Her legacy to the International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women as a co-founder and President for two terms will be recognized.
