High School Girls' Attitude Towards Physical Activity

Kestutis Kardelis and Rasa Jankauskiene, Lithuania

It is evident that physical activity (PA) as a health promoter has a strong influence on a growing child during the formative education period. However, as the child is maturing, the demand of PA is naturally decreasing. This situation necessitates the creating of various health-related programs, fostering children and youth to engage in a physically active life style.

Physical activity (PA) was determined by anonymous questionnaires consisting of 34 items. The questionnaire was given to girls in classes X-XTI from local secondary schools that were selected by random.

The findings of this study clearly suggested that PA is not a relevant argument for promoting healthy life styles among young females. The perception of health in the girls understanding is that it is used to prevent future physical problems. The results of this study show a necessity to create programs that meet the challenge of involving children and youth in a more active life style.
