The Role of Sport and Physical Education in the Rehabilitation of War Traumatized Women

The huge war tragedy of Bosnia and Herzegovina is well known. Many people were exposed to great suffering and agony. It had big consequences on everybody, especially on women, regardless of their age, status, occupation. They reflected on both mental and physical health of women. A question, which was ask, is: Which is the best way to help women
Who are the traumatized by the war in different ways? How support, and particularly women in sport, can help in solving this problem.

THE AIM

Through this work we wanted to assess the influence of moving and physical activities and support recreation on the life style of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

METODOLOGY

This investigation included 148 women age 40-55.They were tested by 7 tests of primary motor abilities and also all of them were requested to fill and questionnaire with 15 general questions (about mental and social condition).

3. Repetitive force of back muscles
4. Squat in 20 seconds
5. Frequency of movements – left hand
6. Balance open eyes
7. Walk 3 KM

RESULTS

On the basis of results related to primary motor abilities, we could see that these results have shown the optimal abilities of the examined population of women with the tendency of the decreased endurance and repetitive force.
This time, we want make deeper analyses of these results, but will concentrate on obtained results from the questionnaire which form the basis for the possibility to use the physical education and sport in the war traumatized women in order to improve both the physical and mental state of health. These results presented graphically.
 

DISSCUTION AND CONCULISON

After the war the Committee “women and sport” in Bosnia and Herzegovina has demonstrated a great commitment to women’s sport and PE. Its strategy has been to increase the number of women’s clubs and its results are evident. The primary objectives are:
- to provide opportunities for women’s involvement in PE and sport
- to establish and straighten effective sport programs and community health programs and develop strategy that helps to realize these programs
- to find ways of ensuring women to participate in these programs (advertising)
- to provide rehabilitation through PE and sport
- to provide therapy against stress traumas
- to increase psychological and physical abilities of women through PE and sport.

Using specific programs and contemporary methods women’s clubs try:
- to insure that women understand their needs in PE and sport  and know about benefits they acquire and positive contribution of women’s involvement.
- to encourage women to work out individually as well as in groups, according to their preferences related to their age, skills capabilities.
- to ensure a safe and supported environment at all levels.
- to encourage women to choose place where to work out – their own apartment, yard, park sport facilities, etc..
- to encourage women to participate in action like “ Walking to health” .In this action everybody walks certain distances according to his or her own capability.
-    to encourage women to accept simple form of walkout, accessible to everybody especially preventive aerobic gymnastics.
