Government
Vinnytsia, Ukraine

I knew I wanted to attend college in the United States. After graduating from Ukrainian high school, I was selected for a program that allowed me to spend a year at a boarding school in the Berkshires. I received college counseling there and that’s when I learned about Smith. I knew I wanted to study government because it’s a way for me to learn about other countries.

I had never visited Northampton before arriving for the international students’ orientation. Though I come from a city of 600,000, I like Northampton a lot. It’s very hip, very cultural. As for settling in, the international students’ orientation made a difference. It allowed those of us who were international students to meet each other and get to know Smith. From the start, the staff of the international students office has been a great help. They’re always there. I’m off to Paris for my junior year and they, together with the Office of International Studies, have been guiding me through all the details.
