Many students at my high school
attend community colleges so I’d never heard of Smith until my
adviser suggested it. I applied, was accepted, and Smith gave me
a helpful financial aid package. Still, I was worried about coming
to a place where I’d be in the minority. I decided that it was
a challenge I was willing to face.
At first, I was really homesick.
I often wondered what I’d gotten myself into. Slowly, I began to
see how Smith could work for me. I’ve met a lot of cool people
from all over the world -- one of my good friends is from Korea.
I’m
also learning that diversity isn’t just about race and culture.
I’m thinking of being
a government major with a focus in international relations. Since coming
to Smith, I can see myself doing something with my life. Even more importantly,
I can see myself being able to deal with a wide variety of people. |
