I wanted to come to the east
coast for college. Hearing about a friend’s conversation with a
Smith alum convinced me to look into the school. I went to an event
sponsored by alumnae in the San Francisco area and decided to apply.
Then I came for Discovery Weekend and could see myself here. Though I’d
never planned on going to a women’s college, I knew the statistics
about how graduates of women’s colleges excel in underrepresented
fields. With all the coed schools nearby, I knew there’d be balance.
I also liked Northampton; it reminded me of Berkeley.
I’ve joined
the Asian Students Association, the Intervarsity Christian Club, and
I help with my house’s Diversity Board. The biggest step
I’ve taken since coming here was running for class treasurer. I’ve
never run for office but I wanted to push myself to try it. At Smith,
if you tell people you want to try something new they support you. |
