Smith College offers Retirement Health Care accounts through the Emeriti Retiree Health Plan. The accounts allow you to invest and accumulate assets to help meet future retiree medical expenses.

Retirement Health Plan Accounts

Smith currently contributes $452.11 per year to all eligible faculty and staff who have reached the age of 40 or older. Additionally, you may make post tax contributions into your Retirement Health Care Account (VEBA Trust). The maximum period for Smith College contributions is the earlier of 25 years or the date you cease employment with Smith College. Fidelity Investments provides administrative services and investment options through their Fidelity Freedom Funds. Employees who retiree at 62 or older and who have 10 years of consecutive service at Smith College or attained age 65 with at least five years of consecutive service may purchase the Emeriti Health Insurance Plan Option underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company upon enrolling in Medicare. Your eligible dependents may also be permitted to enroll at that time.

Below you will find the first edition of The Emeriti Matters for Participants biannual newsletter. It includes all sorts of useful information for employees, including a rundown of the three key features of the Emeriti program, why Emeriti feels it is important to start saving early, and how to designate dependents. Additionally, newsletters will provide updates on the Fidelity Freedom Funds and any benefit changes to the Emeriti Program.
