Spring 2004

Sexual Health Education Session

Smith students who are having their first gyn exam and/or getting a prescription contraceptive (oral contraceptives, diaphragm, cervical cap) for the first time are required to attend an educational session before their appointment at Health Services. This gives the clinicians more time with each student, enabling most exams to be completed in one appointment.

The first part of the SHE session is designed to demystify the pelvic exam and to provide information about the pap smear, breast self exam, and STDs. Part Two provides information and options for those who have an appointment for contraception. Part Two is optional for students who do not have an appointment at Health Services for contraception.

  • Students with an appointment for a gyn medical problem only are not required to attend a SHE session.
  • Students who are changing their method of contraception and have previously attended both part I and II of a SHE session need not attend a second time.
