Student Medical Insurance Plan:
Students enrolled at Smith College in a degree program and taking at least 4 credits are eligible for coverage by the Student Medical Insurance Plan. This plan is a good comprehensive policy that provides inpatient and outpatient hospital services, mental health, diagnostic testing and lab services and other specialty benefits. The Student Medical Insurance plan is $2,054. Prescription medications are covered up to $1,000 per policy year with a new 3-tier structure for co-pays ($10/$25/$45). In addition, most services provided by Health Services are covered, including 8 sessions at the Counseling Service, psychopharmacology management, and access to the nutritionist. A policy enhancement for this year is the increase of the Per Condition Maximum from $35,000 to $50,000.
Optional On Campus Health Care Plan:
| The Optional On Campus Health Care Plan covers most services provided by Health Services including up to eight sessions at the Counseling Service, psychopharmacology management, access to the nutritionist, most lab tests and procedures. For students covered by their parents' insurance, an advantage of this plan is that most laboratory tests that students will need while at Smith are covered without worrying about submitting claims to insurance (and will it be covered) and eliminating concerns regarding confidentiality (submitting claims to insurance and parents). (Most private insurance companies will not cover admissions to our intermediate care facility.)
The costs of immunizations (and depo-provera) are not covered.
The Optional On Campus Plan may be purchased at any time during the academic year (cost $230).

Private Insurance:
Students who are not covered by the college health insurance may still use Health Services. There is no charge for the office visit, but students will be responsible for any ancillary charges and/or lab fees. If desired, students may self-pay for confidential ancillary services. The student is responsible for any charges not covered by private insurance.
