By Girls For Girls: Global is a two week long class taught during the Smith College Summer Science and Engineering Program. The students explored the broad meaning of health, including cultural, political, racial, and economic determinants. The program's purpose is to prepare students with valuable knowledge as well as foster intellectual independence. The classes engage students though discussion groups, field trips, individual research opportunities, and interactive lectures. The students investigate a range of health issues such as body image, female circumcision, nutrition, obstetric fistula, reproductive health, sex trafficking, and much more.
The course is taught by Dr. Leslie Jaffe, Director of Health Services at Smith College, and assisted by intern Michaela Chinn.
