Energy Use & Efficiency
Investment
Smith recognizes that investing in campus efficiency benefits the climate and is good for the college.
As part of Smith President Carol Christ's efforts to reduce the college's ongoing operational costs, a substantial investment is being made in efficiency upgrades that save money. See the president's letter of May 4, 2009.
In the long term, we plan to establish a sustainability revolving fund to encourage innovative projects and provide capital support. The fund is structured so that it can cover a range of projects proposed by campus departments and operations. This allows for funding ideas generated anywhere on campus and for behavioral (conservation) projects as well as technology and infrastructure (efficiency) upgrades.
