MacLeish Field Station
Thanks to a gift from Jill Ker Conway, Smith College dedicated the Ada and Archibald MacLeish Field Station in West Whately, Massachusetts in May 2008. The mission of the field station is to foster field-based education and research that promotes environmental study and experiential learning in a forested and agricultural landscape.

This 200-acre site is a patchwork of protected forest and farmland making up one of the largest remaining tracts of undeveloped land in Massachusetts. It is located adjacent to the primary reservoir that supplies drinking water to the City of Northampton. The Ada and Archibald MacLeish Field Station offers a unique opportunity for faculty and students from several disciplines to pursue environmental research, outdoor education, and low-impact recreation.
