Welcome to the Center for the Environment, Ecological Design, and Sustainability (CEEDS)
With environmental sustainability an increasingly dominant issue of our day, CEEDS exists with one purpose: to graduate women who excel at integrating knowledge across disciplines in support of environmental decisions and action. We meet this goal in a variety of ways, from connecting students to green initiatives and academic pursuits to supporting faculty who desire to deepen their understanding of salient environmental issues of today.
We are located on the garden Level of the newly renovated Wright Hall (see a campus map). Come visit our space to learn about green initiatives happening around campus, read the newspaper among our ever growing plant collection, or get some studying in at our student workstations.
Our hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, but you can often find other events happening here in the evenings and on weekends. Check out our calendar of environmental events to discover all sustainability focused activities taking place on campus and in the greater five-college area.
Our commitment to collaboration is evident in our team located within CEEDS. We house the Office of Sustainability, faculty from the Engineering and Landscape Studies departments, liaisons from the Environmental Science and Policy Program, and the people behind both the Ada and Archibald MacLeish Field Station and our Environmental Monitoring initiatives. With so many perspectives existing right here, we can’t help but see environmental connections spanning all areas of Smith!
Thanks to a generous gift from Jill Ker Conway to support our initial efforts, we are moving ahead with many exciting programs. We hope you will be a part of our efforts!
