The Clarke Schools
for Hearing and Speech and
Smith College offer a cooperative program of study (one academic year and one summer)
leading to the degree of Master of Education of the Deaf. Rolling admissions for
this program for entry in summer 2012 will begin after December 1, although applications
will be accepted as late as April 1 of that year.
Program emphasis is on an auditory/oral approach in
working with children with hearing loss who use cochlear implants or hearing aids.
Courses include study in language development, anatomy and physiology of hearing
and speech mechanisms, communication science and skill development, multimedia education
technology, professional ethics, psychology, and planning and implementation of education
programming for children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
