Students interested in challenging their bodies as well as their minds will find plenty of opportunities at Smith's athletic complex which includes two gymnasiums, two training areas with free weights and Cybex weight machines, an athletic training room, pool, squash courts, and a human performance laboratory where athletes can monitor their aerobic power, flexibility, nutrition, and body composition. The complex also includes a 25- yard, six-lane pool with one and three-meter diving boards, and an underwater observation window. An indoor track and tennis facility provides a high-quality, weather-protected environment. Outdoor facilities include 12 lighted tennis courts, lighted playing fields, a fully enclosed softball diamond, and an eight-lane, 400-meter track.
The Olin Fitness Center is the
latest addition to Smith's athletic complex. The 6,000-square-foot
structure, opened in early 2004, is located above the student
lounge, between the Ainsworth and Scott gymnasiums. The air-conditioned
facility includes new weight stations, free weights, ellipticals,
stair climbers, cycles, treadmills, plyometrics and TV monitors. |
