Mlada Bukovansky received her BA in Philosophy from
the Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado; a Masters in International Affairs
from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New
York City; and a PhD in Political Science, specializing in International Politics,
from Columbia University in 1994. Prior to teaching at Smith, Professor Bukovansky
taught international politics at Dartmouth College.
Her research focuses on the evolving
norms and institutions of the international system, both current and historical.
She has published articles in the journals International Organization, Review
of International Studies, Review of International Political Economy, and International
Relations. Her book, Legitimacy and Power Politics: the American and French Revolutions in International Political Culture, was published in 2002 by Princeton University
Press.
She has published essays in Constructing the International Economy (Cornell), Global Standards of Market Civilization (Routledge)and the forthcoming On Rules, Politics, and Knowledge(Palgrave).She is currently working on a co-authored volume entitled Special Responsibilities: The US and Global Governance, anda second single-authored book, tentatively titledVices and Virtues in Global Governance.Professor Bukovansky teaches courses on international politics, international political economy, international relations theory, international organizations, and European politics. In her spare time she likes to ski, sail, hike, climb, and generally enjoy the outdoors.
