Gregory White is a native of Philadelphia and earned an A.B. from Lafayette College and a Ph.D. in Political Science and African Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

He is the Elizabeth Mugar Eveillard '69 Faculty Director of the Global Studies Center (http://www.smith.edu/world/index.php) and the Mary Huggins Gamble Professor of Government.  He teaches courses on global environmental politics, international relations, migration and refugee politics, and international political economy.  He also offers a senior seminar on North African politics.   

His research and publications focus on Moroccan politics, environmental politics, and international security.  He received a New Directions Grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation, and for 2009-2010 he studied climate and earth science at Columbia University’s Earth Institute.  Most recently, he published Climate Refugees or Mere Migrants: Climate-Induced Migration, Security, and Borders in a Warming World (Oxford University Press, 2011).  He is currently an associate editor of the Journal of North African Studies.
