Evan Torner is a Ph.D. candidate in German Studies and Film Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has taught German at both the secondary and university levels since graduating from Grinnell College in 2004. His research focuses on the institutional, aesthetic and social structures underpinning German genre cinema, particularly that of East Germany. He recently translated the "Dream Factory—100 Years of Babelsberg"permanent exhibit at the Filmmuseum Potsdam, and has published on the works of Peter Weiss, Carola Freiin von Eynatten, Michael Haneke, and Uwe Boll, among others. As of 2010, he has also made several interventions within the field of game studies, including the co-edited volume *Immersive Gameplay: Essays on Participatory Media and Role-Playing*(McFarland, 2012) with William J. White.
