She received her academic training at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich in Linguistics and German as a Foreign Language. She has taught at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Tongji University Shanghai, Chinese University Hong Kong, the University of Connecticut and the University of Rhode Island.
