Lyman Plant House & Conservatory: Regular hours are 8:30 am to
4:00 pm daily.
NOTE: Spring Bulb Show and Fall Chrysanthemum Show hours for the general public are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. See flower show details below.

CLOSED THANKSGIVING DAY AND WINTER BREAK:

Campus arboretum and gardens: Open daily year-round.
While we are not a public park in the sense of a Central Park, the public is invited to explore the campus arboretum and specialty gardens.

SPRING BULB SHOW - Opens the first Saturday in March; runs for two weeks including the third weekend.
HOURS: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.
Friday extended hours 4:00 - 8:00 PM

FALL CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW - Opens the first Saturday in November; runs for two weeks including the third weekend.
HOURS: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.
Friday extended hours 4:00 - 8:00 PM
*NO Guided Tours during the flower shows. Groups of 10 or more visiting the shows must schedule in advance. See group visit info below.

Occasionally closed for regular maintenance, always check ahead if you are planning a trip.

Donations are gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Group Visits and Guided Tours:
We welcome group visits with advance reservations. For more information about group visits you can print out our Group Visit Information Sheet.

To help in scheduling and to avoid having to disappoint visitors we require that ALL GROUPS ARRANGE VISITS IN ADVANCE by filling out an
Online Group Tour/Visit Request Form or contacting the Botanic Garden office during regular business hours, M-F 8:30 am to 4:00 pm (413-585-2742) or by email: garden@smith.edu.

Guided tours for school groups and other groups are available by appointment. Tours must be scheduled 4 weeks in advance. Well-behaved and chaperoned school groups are welcome only IF YOU HAVE SCHEDULED AHEAD.

School Bus Subsidies:
The Botanic Garden is happy to be able to offer bus subsidies to defray your school group’s bus transportation costs. Subsidies must be requested when making tour reservations for your group and you must submit a bus subsidy form and tax ID information. See Bus Form and the Teachers Resource Guide.

Please note: Subsidies are granted on a first come, first served basis, so we encourage teachers to schedule their visits as early as possible, but at least four weeks in advance.

Audio Tours
of the Lyman Conservatory are available for $1.00 per person, but free for Friends of the Botanic Garden (bring your membership card) and the Smith College community (with a Smith ID). All children using audio wands must be accompanied by an adult.

Visitor Parking:
There are a few general parking spaces and a designated handicapped space in front of Lyman Conservatory, but there is no parking along College Lane (except during the two weeks of the bulb and mum shows). On-street parking is available along Elm Street (Route 9), just up the hill. There is a parking garage across campus on West Street, which has visitor parking spaces available.

Accessibility:
There is a handicapped parking space and entrance at the Lyman Plant House. All but one of the greenhouses is wheelchair accessible and we do have a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Please contact us for the best wheelchair route through the greenhouses. For other special needs please call in advance.

Botanic Garden Rules
  • Please respect the Botanic Garden (i.e., do not treat it in a way you would not treat your own home).
  • Picnicking is NOT permitted in the Systematics Garden, Rock Garden, Capen Garden, the Presidents House Gardens or the Japanese Garden.
  • No dogs are permitted in the President's House Gardens, the Rock Garden, the Systematics Garden, or Capen Garden.
  • In other areas, dogs must be leashed and curbed.
  • Please clean up after your dog, as per City of Northampton ordinance.
  • No pets or skates are allowed in the Conservatory.
  • No running or shouting in the Conservatory, please.
  • It's best not to touch the plants, especially if you are unfamiliar with them.
  • Bikes are permitted on paved paths and Bridle Trail only.
  • Climbing of trees is prohibited.
  • Please stay on the paths to avoid making tracks on lawns.
  • Please refrain from picking flowers so that all can enjoy.
