CHANGING THE FACE OF SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

Designing for Sustainability

Climate Action PartnershipSmith provides outstanding resources for the education of effective leaders, so addressing sustainability on campus makes educational and economic sense. In this effort, Smith joins other institutions: Reed, Vassar, UC-Berkeley, Oberlin, Carleton, Tufts, Carnegie Mellon, Brown, Clemson, Dartmouth, and Emory.

The college has committed to creating a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified green building that fosters best practices in interdisciplinary education and exemplifies forward-looking, sustainable construction design and practice.

This innovative design builds on feasibility research conducted by three students in the second Picker graduating class who worked with the building architects and were supervised by the mechanical and electrical systems engineers.
