Women choose Smith for the quality of its teaching,
the depth of its resources that support the curriculum and campus life, a student
body composed of intelligent women with strong personal goals, and the beauty of
the campus. Today's students, coming of age in the 21st century, are also attracted
by Smith's tradition of preparing women to succeed in the sciences—and now
engineering—and by the diversity of Smith's student body.
The two key elements of Smith's ability to support its
programs and offer meaningful financial aid are the endowment and annual support
of the college through the Alumnae and Parents Fund. This combination of long-term
support from endowment earnings and $10 million (2004-05) in annual funds allows
Smith to invest in promising programs and extend assistance to talented women from
throughout the world who seek a challenging education.
As we move into a century when new careers are developing
in nearly every discipline, alumnae support -- past, present, and future -- remains
essential to Smith's capacity to maintain its excellence and thereby attract the
best women students.
