Smith Fund volunteers are elected by class members at reunion, or are appointed through recruitment at the midpoint in the reunion cycle.

Special Gift Chair
The Special Gift Chair is responsible for coordinating efforts for classmates in the special gifts pool (typically alumnae who will be asked for a gift of $1000 or more). The Special Gift Chair monitors the progress of the special gift committee by reviewing reports prepared by the Fund office, and solicits annual leadership gifts from the special gift committee. She helps her class identify new prospective donors at the special gifts level, and assists the staff liaison in determining ask amounts for these alumnae. Responsibilities include:

Soliciting annual gifts at the special gifts level in writing and/or by telephone

Thanking donors for their gifts to Smith

With staff liaison, recruiting and appointing the Special Gift Committee

Engaging in conversations and activities with classmates to strengthen their affiliation with Smith

Giving consistent leadership gifts to Smith

Class Fund Agent
The Class Fund Agent is responsible for coordinating the efforts for classmates with asks of $1,000 and below. She will strategize ways to increase class participation in giving to The Smith Fund, solicit classmates for annual gifts, and thank donors. Responsibilities include:

Managing a group of classmates being solicited for participation gifts

Soliciting classmates in writing and/or by telephone

Engaging in conversations and activities with classmates to strengthen their affiliation with Smith

Helping the class achieve greater levels of support and participation in The Smith Fund

Giving consistently to Smith

With staff liaison, recruiting Class Gift Committee

Memorial Gift Chair
The Memorial Gift Chair is elected in those classes that have graduated 20 or more years ago. Memorial chairs coordinate fundraising efforts for gifts in memory of deceased classmates. Responsibilities include:

Researching contact information for next of kin of deceased classmates

Writing letters of condolence to families when informed of a classmate’s death

Writing thank you notes to next of kin when The Smith Fund is mentioned in an alumna’s obituary

Writing thank you notes to acknowledge all memorial gifts credited to the class

In reunion year, asking classmates to give reunion year memorial gifts

In reunion year, writing notes to deceased classmates’ next of kin to invite them to participate in the class reunion gift to The Smith Fund.

Fund Team Coordinator
This position is appointed by The Smith Fund Class Manager based on extraordinary performance as a Fund Team member. The Fund Team Coordinator serves as the leader for the fund team and the link between The Smith Fund staff liaison and the team members. Responsibilities include:

Communicating regularly with the Special Gift Chairs, Class Fund Agents and staff liaison

Coordinating the activities and communication of the fund team

Overseeing the recruitment and solicitation process for team members

Contacting and establishing a relationship with all fund team members and key classmates

Soliciting those classmates for gifts each fiscal year through reunion

Following up with an appreciative thank you when gifts are received

Giving consistently to Smith each year

Class Gift Agent
This position is for select volunteers who are eager to participate in gift discussions. Class Gift Agents have a genuine enthusiasm for the Smith College tradition of alumnae fundraising, enjoy staying in touch with classmates, and appreciate the challenge of fundraising. Responsibilities include:

Contacting and establishing a relationship with an assigned group of classmates

Communicating with those classmates about Smith and The Smith Fund

Soliciting those classmates for gifts each fiscal year through reunion

Following up with an appreciative thank you when gifts are received

Giving consistently to Smith each year

Class Ambassador
This position is for volunteers who want to participate in Smith’s fundraising efforts, but who prefer not to hold direct fundraising discussions. Class Gift Ambassadors have a genuine enthusiasm for the Smith College tradition of alumnae fundraising. They understand the importance of The Smith Fund to the overall health of the college and are willing to reach out to their classmates in order to further the work of the fundraising team. Responsibilities include:

Contacting and establishing a relationship with an assigned group of classmates

Communicating with those classmates about Smith and The Smith Fund news

Encouraging, but not directly soliciting, those classmates for gifts each fiscal year (The Smith Fund staff or student phonathon callers will assist with gift conversation)

Following up with an appreciative thank you when gifts are received

Giving consistently to Smith each year

Class Steward
This position is for volunteers who want to express the college’s appreciation to classmates who give to The Smith Fund. Responsibilities include:

Maintaining a relationship with a group of classmates by thanking them for their support every fiscal
year when a gift is received
