YOUR SMITH FUND DOLLARS AT WORK

How are my gifts used?

A gift to The Smith Fund is an unrestricted, budget-relieving contribution and goes immediately to where it is needed most in that given year. Starting with fiscal year 2008, gifts to The Smith Fund also support the Foundational Commitments as outlined in the The Smith Design for Learning. It is important to note that gifts to The Smith Fund are spent in the year that they are received.

What were The Smith Fund's year-end results?

In fiscal year 2006-07, The Smith Fund raised $11.3 million with gifts from 15,774 individuals.

What is The Smith Fund's "year"?

At Smith College, the fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30 of each year.

Why do you need my gift?

Sixty percent of Smith students are receiving need-based aid from college funds. Your support is critical to Smith's being able to offer these students the financial packages they require to be able to attend the college.

Why does my being a donor matter?

Having the number of donors to The Smith Fund increase each year is very important, as it is an indicator of the health of our Fund in future years. The college counts on our base of support.

Is a gift to The Smith Fund tax deductible?

All gifts to The Smith Fund are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. You will receive a receipt for your contribution which you can use for tax purposes.
