The Center for Community Collaboration will act as a gateway linking Smith with regional communities and helping students integrate their academic work with community experiences, volunteer service, independent community projects, and Praxis internships. It will build on existing Smith programs such as the Picker Engineering Program’s Senior Design Clinic, education students’ placement in local schools, the Office of Educational Outreach, and the Lewis Leadership Program.
Community-based learning is part of providing students with hands-on learning that challenges them to test what they learn in the classroom or seminar in actual practice.
