PICKER ENGINEERING PROGRAM

The Picker Engineering Program is:

The first degree-granting engineering program at a women's college in the United States

The first engineering program to comprehensively integrate engineering and the liberal arts

The only engineering program where the majority of the faculty is female (63 percent)

1st gradsThe Picker Program offers a degree in engineering science, which requires all students to study the core principles of several engineering disciplines. Combined with liberal arts courses, this exposure prepares Smith undergraduates for leadership roles in the practice of engineering and in society.

This approach to engineering reflects the mission of founding philanthropists Dr. Harvey Picker and his wife, Jean Sovatkin Picker '42, former U.S. Representative to the United Nations Commission on Social Development, to combine the application of scientific knowledge with a consciousness of societal needs.
