Janie Vanpée

A native of Belgium, Janie Vanpée earned a B.A. from Smith College and a Ph.D. from Yale University. She has been a member of the Smith College faculty since 1985.
Her articles on Rousseau, Laclos, J-B. Greuze,
Olympe de Gouges, Françoise de Graffigny, the Encyclopédie,
and Leïla Sebbar have appeared in Eighteenth Century Studies,
Eighteenth Century Fiction, LEsprit Créateur, Theatre Journal,
Modern Language Studies, Dalhousie French Studies, Studies on
Voltaire and the Eighteenth Century, and The ADFL Bulletin.
She is co-editor of an issue of Yale French Studies: Reading the Archive:
On Texts and Institutions.
At Smith, Janie Vanpée has taught intermediate language courses, the French immersion January interterm course, as well as courses that highlight the literature and culture of the French enlightenment. She participates regularly in the Comparative Literature Program, teaching courses on the epistolary novel, the picaresque novel, and contemporary literary theory.
She directed the Smith Junior Year Abroad Program in Paris in 1999-2000 and again in 2003-2004. |
