Jonathan Gosnell

Jonathan Gosnell obtained his Ph.D. in French cultural studies from New York University and has taught in the Department of French Studies since 1996. Professor Gosnell teaches language and culture courses from beginning to advanced levels. His scholarship focuses on the production of French and Francophone identities outside of metropolitan France. He published a book, The Politics of Frenchness in Colonial Algeria, 1930-1954, and has written several articles appearing in scholarly journals. Current research interests include French designs of Empire, Europe and the Americas, and the development of postcolonial cultures in the Francophone world. Jonathan Gosnell directed the Junior Year Abroad program in Geneva, Switzerland in 2006-2007.
