A native of Egypt, Eglal Doss-Quinby earned her Ph.D. in medieval French literature at New York University. She joined the faculty of Smith College in 1988.
Her field of specialization is Old French lyric poetry. Alone or in collaboration with other literary scholars, philologists and musicologists, she has published five books: Cultural Performances in Medieval France: Essays in Honor of Nancy Freeman Regalado (D. S. Brewer, 2007), The Old French Ballette: Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Douce 308 (Droz, 2006), Songs of the Women Trouvères (Yale University Press, 2001), The Lyrics of the Trouvères: A Research Guide (1994), and Les refrains chez les trouvères du XIIe siècle au début du XIVe (1984). She is presently preparing ‘Sottes chansons contre amours’. Parodie et burlesque au XIIIe siècle (Honoré Champion, forthcoming in 2009). Her articles, translations, and reviews have appeared in leading journals.
Eglal Doss-Quinby regularly teaches Medieval and Renaissance France, Women Writers of the French Middle Ages, and The Language of Business and International Trade . She also team-teaches a comparative literature course on the writings of medieval women. She last directed the Smith College Junior Year in Paris Program in 2007-2008 and the medievl studies program in 2006-2007; she served as Chair of the Department of French Studies in 2003-2005. |
