Christiane Métral, a dual citizen of France and Switzerland, received her Swiss Licence ès Lettres (the equilvalent of a U.S. Master's degree and a French Maîtrise) from the Université de Genève, and began teaching at Smith 1996. Her focus is foreign language pedagogy and cross-cultural communication. She holds a certification as an oral proficiency examiner through ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). She teaches beginning and intermediate French language courses and the January term immersion course in French oral expression. In the spring, she offers a course on cultural communication where students have weekly conversations live (through webcam and videoconferencing technology) with French students from a prestigious college in Paris. She co-directed the Junior Year Abroad program
in Geneva in 2004-2005. |
