About the Department
The Smith College Department of French Studies offers a wide variety of courses in French language, literature and culture. All classes and examinations in the department are conducted in French with the exception of cross-listed courses, unless otherwise indicated. In all language courses, multimedia and work in the Center for Foreign Languages and Cultures (CFLAC) will supplement classroom instruction.
Students who receive
scores of 4 and 5 on the Advanced Placement tests in French Language
and Literature may not apply that credit toward the degree if they
complete any course in the department prior to FRN 230.
Normally, students
going on Junior Year Abroad (JYA) to Paris or Geneva should have completed
a minimum of four semesters of college French, of which at least one
should be at the 250 level or above.
If you would like to apply for residence in La Maison Française, Dawes House, please contact Martine Gantrel, Department Chair. |
