PTO

The Fort Hill PTO is an active group and sponsors many social, educational and fund-raising events.  All families enrolled in the Center for Early Childhood Education (CECE) at Fort Hill are members of the PTO and we welcome active participation from any interested parents. Volunteers can help in many small ways to make a big difference for the school – to learn how you can help, please email lmckenna@smith.edu.

Each school year begins with a PTO-sponsored welcome picnic for families to get together, allowing old friendships to be renewed and new friendships to develop. Throughout the year, the PTO is called upon to support educational initiatives by supplementing the cost of field trips, supplies, and other ad hoc expenses, such as the the printing cost of the Family Directory. In December we begin the Winter Break with the Staff Appreciation Brunch, which is always a beautiful spread of delectable food and other expressions of thanks for our wonderful staff.

To support these initiatives, the PTO has a several one-time and ongoing fundraisers that support enrichment and social activities at the school. Here are a few of our key programs:

The Fort Hill Book Sale

Start the holiday shopping early! Each November, the school book sale raises key dollars for our program through the sale of high-quality children’s books and other PTO items. Featured books are selected by professional book buyers with input from the Fort Hill teaching staff. These usually include the hottest new books as well as classics by well-known authors and artists. A “book talk” before the sale allows parents an exciting sneak preview of the inventory.

Clothing and Tote Bags
Quality sweatshirts, T-shirts and tote bags with the Fort Hill sun logo are a great way to show your pride in our school. The sun is featured prominently because it is usually one of the first representative drawings of a child. We have an inventory of items on hand, and special orders are always welcome.

Coffee Mugs and Organic, Fair-Trade Coffee
A delicious fundraiser!  Dean's Beans offers organic, fair-traded coffee bagged with the Fort Hill logo. You can also buy a nicely shaped ceramic mug with the sun logo – a real staff and family favorite!

Ink Jet Cartridge recycling

Did you know that just by recycling your inkjet cartridges, you can bring dollars into the CECE?  Anytime you put a new cartridge in to your home or office printer, be sure to recycle the old one. Fort Hill will receive up to $1 for each usable ink cartridge. Postage-paid envelopes are in the lobby.
