Instructions for First Year Applicants for Financial Aid

Follow procedures for applicants residing in the U.S. However, if your parents are living and earning income outside the U.S. and do not file U.S. tax returns, you should also fill out the Smith Financial Aid Application for Non-U.S. Citizens so that we can consider the actual expenses incurred by your family.

PROFILE

You will need to file a College Scholarship PROFILE Form

Register on-line at http://www.collegeboard.org.   After you register on-line, you may then complete the application on-line.  You can also obtain the registration form from secondary school guidance offices or from Smith College in the fall of your senior year of high school.

FAFSA

You will also need to file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) which you can obtain from secondary school guidance offices or from Smith College. You may apply on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

When available: After December 1. May not be sent to Federal Processor before January 1.

If your parents file U.S. tax returns, we require signed copies of parents' and student's most recent federal income tax returns, including all schedules and W-2's.


Other Forms That May Be Required for Your Financial Aid Application

Business/Farm Supplement     (This form is required if your parents own a business or farm.) Instructions to follow from the College Board once Profile is submitted.

Non-Custodial Profile (This form is required if your parents are divorced or separated.)

Parent Non-filer Form (This form is required if your parents do not file a tax return.)

Student Non-filer Form   (This form is required if you do not file a tax return.)
