Obtaining Hours
Although you are offered
the opportunity to earn through work-study, you are responsible for obtaining
the number of hours you need. Jobs are not guaranteed or reserved. You may
choose to apply these earnings toward your bill, to buy books and supplies,
or to use for other expenses. Students
are not required to work if they do not wish to do so. However, the College
will not replace the unearned work-study with grant aid.
Financial aid students with work-study have priority for all jobs offered
on campus, as well as for those positions listed as “Off-Campus
Work-Study” or part of the “America
Reads/America Counts” tutoring programs.
The Student Employment
web page offers a great deal of information regarding student work, on and off
campus, as well as a link to the job listing website, JobX. Positions on JobX are constantly being added or removed so you are
encouraged to check the site frequently or sign up for JobMail which lets you know via email when a job you might
be interested in is posted. You may also wish to
consider Off-Campus Work-Study
at one of the local non-profits or America
Reads/America Counts Tutoring, both of which allow you to get off campus and into the
community and provide excellent opportunities. Links to these job listings
and to information pages are located on the Student Employment website.
Assistance is available
from the Student Employment Coordinator if a student has difficulty locating
work due to medical restrictions or serious class or athletic conflicts.
Please contact the employer
directly to apply for a particular position on JobX.
Remember that you are only permitted to work one full-time position or a maximum of 12 hrs per
week.
Some students also like
to look for jobs off campus that are not work-study related such as childcare,
clerical work in local for-profit agencies, etc. Those advertisements can also be found
on the JobX website under Off-Campus Non-Work-Study.
