Listed below are projected loan and work limitations.
These levels are estimated and moderate changes may be made each year. (Note: First year work/stipend amounts are as of academic year 12/13).
Generally based on 7-10 hours per week for 30 weeks.
The Federal loan limits listed below are maximums.
Your financial aid package may show a lesser amount based on the college’s
policy of awarding need-based aid. You may still be eligible to borrow up to the
federal maximum, although you may not be eligible for the interest subsidy on the
entire loan.
All students are eligible to borrow up to an additional $2,000 in Federal Unsubsidized Loan, depending on their calculated family contribution. Students who have not been awarded the additional $2,000 in unsubsidized loan may request this loan by e-mailing st_loans@smith.edu. Include the student's Smith ID number and the amount requested.
Independent students and Dependent students whose parents are denied for a federal PLUS Loan may be eligible to borrow
additional amounts, listed below, through this program.
