Loans may be included in the financial aid package. You must apply for financial aid in order to be eligible for federal loans. The loan(s) shown in your financial aid award letter reflect your total federal eligibility. You may choose not to borrow the loan(s) or borrow a lesser amount than offered. Federal Direct Loans and Perkins Loans will show as payments to your account only after the promissory note and entrance counseling requirements have been completed.

Your financial aid package may include Federal Work Study which is a need-based employment program supported in part by federal funds and in part by Smith College. Student wages are paid every two weeks during the academic year and are based on the number of hours that the student works. It is the student's responsibility to secure a work study position. Please refer to the Student Employment Guide for more detail.
