OFF-CAMPUS WORK-STUDY

What To Do

Students seeking a Work-Study position under this program must have Federal Work-Study in their financial aid package (check your Work-Study status using Banner Web.) If you do not have Federal Work-Study, you are not eligible to apply for or hold an Off-Campus Work-Study position. IMPORTANT: OCWS applicants must contact the Student Employment Coordinator for a contract when hired at an agency. You cannot be paid without a completed contract.

If you are interested in an advertised OCWS job, apply for the position directly with the agency via JobX. Contact Valerie Schumacher, the Student Employment Coordinator, at vschumac@smith.edu to let her know immediately if you apply at one of the agencies since a Work-Study Agreement and Contract must be drawn up between Smith College and the agency prior to beginning work. Smith will then bill the agency in June for 25% of the student's earnings, and the employer share of FICA and Workmen's Comp. This arrangement allows agencies with tight budgets to hire students and gives the student an opportunity to work out in 'the real world'.

Please think seriously about your schedule and other obligations before applying for these positions.
