OFF-CAMPUS WORK-STUDY

Getting Paid

Students working at agencies under the OCWS program will complete a timesheet on BannerWeb just as though they are working on campus since Smith College acts as the Paymaster and later bills and is reimbursed by the agency. The agencies are assigned their own position control numbers and the pay rate is $9.00 per hour. FICA is .0765% for both parties (employer and employee), so if a student earns $100, $7.65 is withheld from her check and paid to the government, an amount also matched by the agency. Any questions regarding this should be addressed to the Payroll Office, x2213, payroll@smith.edu. Note that Payroll is an entirely separate department from Student Employment, which means they oversee BannerWeb time sheets, among other things. You can find all student payroll information on their website.

Note: Since the OCWS jobs pay 50 cents more per hour, students can only work a maximum of 10 hours a week. End of the year extensions of $300 are available only for on-campus work.
