OFF-CAMPUS WORK-STUDY

Considering Off-Campus Work-Study

A variety of Off-Campus Work-Study jobs are available to Smith students with Federal Work-Study each year at local pre-approved non-profit, non-sectarian agencies. At this time, Smith College is not accepting any new Off-Campus Work-Study agencies. Therefore, students do not have the option of finding agencies on their own. Off-Campus Work-Study focuses on non-profit agencies serving the community, particularly its low-income citizens. Participants include agencies such as the Center for Public Representation, Forbes Library, and the National Priorities Project, etc. These opportunities are listed on the JobX student employment webpage along with all other Work-Study jobs.

Students seeking a Work-Study position under this program must have Federal Work-Study in their financial aid package (check your Work-Study status using Banner Web.) If you do not have Federal Work-Study, you are not eligible to apply for or hold an Off-Campus Work-Study position. There are two types of Work-Study; CWORK is Campus Work-Study, meaning you can only work on-campus (IWORK for international students). Only FWS allows students to work off-campus.

Note: Since the OCWS jobs pay 50 cents more per hour, students can only work a maximum of 10 hours a week. End of the year extensions of $300 are available only for on-campus work.

IMPORTANT: OCWS applicants can download an OCWS Contract to take to interviews, complete with the hiring supervisor, and return immediately to Valerie Schumacher in SFS. You cannot be paid without a completed contract.
