America Counts and Adult Literacy Information
America Counts is a new initiative from the Federal Government to improve the math skills of children.  It works the same as America Reads, with schools, after-school programs, libraries, etc., taking part as tutoring sites, though America Counts is for children preschool through the 9th grade.  America Reads is for children preschool through the 6th grade.

If you are interested in tutoring math and/or reading, look for a tutoring position on the jobs page and see if the site is also hiring math tutors.  As a tutor for America Counts, you will be required to attend an Overview Training Session and one of the Reflection SessionsOther training and support will be provided by the site that has hired you as a math tutor. You may tutor both reading and math if you choose. If you decide to do so, you should consider a site that is looking for reading and math tutors rather than splitting your time between two different places. If interested, please complete the form below and submit it online. We will contact you personally with more information about the program.

Adult Literacy
Last year, Five College America Reads Tutors partnered with The Care Center in Holyoke to tutor children in their daycare and young adults in their G.E.D. program. This year, The Care Center will be a part of the America Reads program, and will also become involved in training the tutors who work with the adults. This means that as an adult tutor, you will not have to attend the Extended Training Workshop, but will be required to attend one Overview Training and one Reflection Session. The Care Center is also offering limited transportation to their site. If you are interested in adult literacy tutoring for The Care Center, please complete the form below and submit it online. We will contact you personally with more information about the program.
