The
America Reads Challenge is a national
effort to mobilize parents, teachers, community groups, and business leaders
to insure that all children are reading independently by the end of the
3rd grade. America Reads is part of President Clinton's strategy
to guarantee that every eight-year old can read, every 12-year old can
log on to the Internet, and every 18-year old can go to college.
The
Financial Aid and Student Employment Offices
at Amherst
College, Hampshire College,
Mount Holyoke College, Smith
College ,
and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst,
partnered to form Five College America Reads Tutors with the goal
of reaching The America Reads Challenge in area schools and agencies. Along
with Five
Colleges Inc., Five College America Reads Tutors is working
to enlist students and volunteers as reading tutors for our communities'
children. America Reads works with children pre-k to the 6th grade. |
