AMERICA READS/AMERICA COUNTS
TUTORING

Eligibility for the Program

Students seeking an America Reads/America Counts Tutoring position must have Federal Work-Study in their financial aid package (check your Work-Study status using Banner Web.) Many students are awarded CWORK (Campus Work-Study) and this literally means you are only eligible to work on-campus. If you do not have Federal Work-Study (FWS), you are not eligible to apply for or hold a tutoring position unless you choose to do it on a *volunteer* basis. IMPORTANT: contact the Student Employment Coordinator at vschumac@smith.edu for a contract when hired at a school or agency. You cannot be paid without a completed contract.

A Work-Study Agreement and Contract are made between the College and the school or agency for the hours and dollar amount the student intends to work tutoring off-campus. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain these contracts from the Student Employment Office before beginning any work. The student’s wages are covered 100% by our federal funding, and is therefore cost-free to the participating agency or school.
