IMPORTANT NOTICE
The JOBX Url has changed to: https://smith.studentemployment.ngwebsolutions.com. Please make
note of this change for any links or bookmarks that need to be changed at that time.
All students working or wishing to work must read the Student Employment Guide for Students
in entirety to familiarize themselves with the current policies and procedures and the JobX website. You are expected to be familiar with college
policies and procedures as a student employee. Please feel free to write studemp@smith.edu with any questions or if you need clarification.
Jobs are currently open ONLY to students who have been awarded work-study for 2009-2010. Non-aid students are not permitted
to apply for jobs on JOBX until after October 7, 2009. Non-aid students who obtained jobs last year are also not automatically eligible to keep them and the jobs must be re-advertised for
students on aid.
No student, whether on Work-Study or not, is permitted more than the maximum 12 hours a week or one
'full-time' position, First Years work a maximum of 10 hours per week. Students receiving a stipend for positions such as STRIDE, HCA, etc. are not
eligible for a second job. This policy attempts to offer all students an equal opportunity to work, especially in these difficult economic times. Pay rates
will remain the same in 2009-2010, starting at $8.25 per hour.
Entering First Year students are limited to working in their houses
or one nearby for Dining Services and Housekeeping, or for the America Reads/America Counts Tutoring Program.
Please read the section Work-Study for First Year Students for further
information.
JobX is our web-based method of advertising
student jobs for upperclass students. This program aids Smith College's goal of giving students with Work-Study in their aid packages priority
for all jobs. The college is now offering many students College Work (CWORK)in their aid packages and because that is campus funding and not
federal, those students will not be able to work at America Reads/America Counts Tutoring or Off-Campus Work-Study. Only those with Federal
Work-Study (FWS) are eligible for such positions. You can check the type of work-study you've been awarded on either your award letter or on
BannerWeb.
Students at Smith have many employment options available to them
on-campus, off-campus at qualifying non-profit agencies, or tutoring under the America Reads/America
Counts Program. Treat your application to any job seriously and think about visiting the Career Development
Office's webpage for assistance on resume writing. To check if
you have Work-Study in your aid package or to do your Web Time Entry connect to BannerWeb:
There are also off-campus non-work-study jobs advertised on JOBX and we're fortunate to have many businesses
close to campus if students need additional earnings.
Again, the Student Employment Guide is required
reading for all students wishing to work.
