Some awards are funded by the Bi-national Commission, and
others are funded by the Japanese alumni Fulbright Foundation
through which significant donations from the private sector
are received. The A50 Project of Japan, which is funding several
grants, are interested in students who wish to pursue careers
in journalism as well as other fields. The A50 Project has
been initiated by a group of private individuals who wish
to express the Japanese peoplešs appreciation to the U.S.
in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of
the San Francisco Peace Treaty. One of the major activities
of the A50 project is raising funds to provide awards for
Americans to come to Japan as A50-Fulbright students. The
American Chamber of Commerce in Japan also sponsors one grant
which will include an internship. Preference will be given
to a candidate with an interest in business.
