Smith International Study Grants (ISGs) are administered
by the Office for International Study, Neilson Library Archway (B South), the former Public Safety office.
Smith Student Aid Society (SAS) funding is also unrelated
to fellowships but the information about them is posted here
because you are required ALSO to apply for a SAS Grant when
you apply for an ISG.
ISGs usually provide partial funding toward the cost of activities
abroad. The amount depends on various factors but might be
in the $300 to $900 range, though this can vary according
to circumstances.
Grant decisions are usually made within about a week after the application
deadlines for Winter, Spring and Summer breaks. However, because
students must invariably pay the deposits themselves to reserve
places in programs, an indication can sometimes be given earlier
of the expected grant amount, in order for students to assess
whether they can afford to participate in particular programs.
To make your trip more affordable, remember that, for instance,
it is cheaper to go to Mexico or Central America than it is
to go to South America or the Iberian Peninsula. Try to go
for a long period to get the most out of your airfare; the
farther you fly, the more this applies. Flying far for a few-day
conference is expensive. Optimize your limited funding opportunities
at Smith.

SAS grants usually amount to about a few hundred dollars,
roughly $200 to $400.
