I had high expectations from this course—of stimulating and enlightening curriculum, of inspiring leaders and course facilitators, and of the relationships we would build in the week-intensive program. They were all exceeded! The smaller class of 22 enabled a better opportunity to acquaint with every one of the participants, and it was refreshing to not only learn from each others' experiences, but also understand how each woman integrated her career with her personal lifestyle, family commitments, and extracurricular activities... successfully! It was terrific to see so many passionate and energetic women from various backgrounds—and seeing that diversity embraced, and something to focus on!

It was inspiring to learn from strategic mentors, within a life-retreat setting. Whilst the 6am "Yoga/Pilates" classes were optional, the fact that it was an integral start to each day indicated the value on balancing mind, body, and spirit. With my usual workday being consumed by tactical and operational challenges, this course really assisted me to identify limitations and focus on strategic planning. I was able to re-assess my approach on developing my strategic capabilities, and how that should be applied to my daily work tasks. I learnt some of the challenges and intricacies of being a strong negotiator, tools, and guidelines for ensuring maximized value when leading teams, and communicating effectively, as well as financial guides, and ratios to truly assess a company's performance, risk, and profitability.

As a leader, I describe myself as a passionate, confident, self-driven individual, with teamwork being critical for success. However, with my experience at Smith, I know the new mindset and relationships I have made will enable me to execute strategic plans more effectively, or at least reach out to my "Board of Directors", or networks, to share and brainstorm ideas. I feel privileged to be selected to take part of the Smith Exec Course, and I look forward to keeping in touch, developing professionally AND personally, with all those I have met at Smith—especially those from my immediate company.
