  Eye Strain

If you spend several hours a day reading either paper copy or a screen, you're at risk for eye strain.

Symptoms
  • Dry, sore, or burning eyes
  • Contact lens discomfort
  • Difficulty changing focus when looking at distant objects
  • Blurred vision
  • Sensitivity to glare or strong light
  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Eyelid twitch

Solutions

  • Adjust your monitor to eliminate glare.

  • Blink more frequently - it's easy to forget to blink when looking at a screen for prolonged periods.

  • Try artificial tears or over-the-counter eye drops, which can help prevent dry eyes.

  • Rest your eyes periodically. Close them for a minute, look at an object at least 20 feet away for a few seconds, move your eyes in circles to exercise the muscles.

  • If problems persist, see an opthamologist - you may need glasses to wear while you're at the computer.
