Ellen Dore Watson earned B.A. and M.F.A. degrees from the University of Massachusetts.
She has published three collections of poems, most recently Ladder Music, which won the 2000 New York/New England Award from Alice James Books. Her work has been published widely in journals, including The American Poetry Review and The New Yorker. She has also translated a dozen books from the Brazilian Portuguese, including The Alphabet in the Park, by Adélia Prado (for which she was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship) and serves as translation editor of The Massachusetts Review.
Watson is the director of the Poetry Center at Smith College.
