Jefferson Hunter earned his B.A. at Pomona College; B.A. from the University of Bristol; and Ph.D. from Yale University.
A former Marshall Scholar, Professor Hunter has held fellowships from the National Humanities Center and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and at Smith teaches courses in modern British literature and film, with occasional excursions into earlier periods.
In addition to writing articles and reviews, Professor Hunter has published Edwardian Fiction (1983), Image and Word: The Interaction of Twentieth-Century Photographs and Texts (1987), How to Read Ulysses, and Why (2002), and has just completed a book tentatively titled "English Filming, English Writing." He also reviews classic films in DVD for the Hopkins Review.
In 2008, Professor Hunter was an exchange lecturer at Hamburg University.
