Jefferson Hunter

Jefferson Hunter, Professor of English and director of the Film Studies Program, was educated at Pomona College, the University of Bristol, and Yale, from which he received the Ph.D. in 1973. A former Marshall Scholar, he has held fellowships from the National Humanities Center and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and at Smith teaches courses in modern British literature and film, with occasional excursions into earlier periods. In addition to articles and reviews he has published Edwardian Fiction (1983), Image and Word: The Interaction of Twentieth-Century Photographs and Texts (1987), How to Read Ulysses, and Why (2002), and has just completed a book tentatively titled English Filming, English Writing.
